Making a Vow to God

Twenty-three years ago today my husband and I got married. There have been ups and downs in our marriage, but I would like to believe for the most part it has been a really wonderful marriage and I really love the life that we’ve built together.

We got married in the Catholic church even though my husband isn’t a Catholic and we don’t exactly practice Catholicism.  Yet, we have made God the center of our marriage.  When we made our vows to each other we didn’t just make vows to each other, we truly believed that we were making a vow to God as well.

During some of the times, when I have been struggling the most, my husband and I found solace in prayer.  We would join hands and pray together just the two of us.  Over the last twenty-three years through all that has happened that has been something consistent in our lives, we pray in church, we pray with friends, we pray with family, and we pray together.  It isn’t because we are constantly asking God for things, we pray because God is a part of the life we have built together.  I believe in my marriage because I believe in God without God something would be missing.  His love binds us together in ways that I don’t totally understand, but I have faith in it.

My faith saved me.  May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
