In the Face of Mother Nature

Today, the biggest thing on my mind is Hurricane Ian. I find it difficult to comprehend the power of nature and how destructive a storm like that can be. In an age where the world has so much technology and humans have become so capable of so much; nature shows us how little we have really achieved.  We have landed a man on the moon.  We are landing spaceships on Mars.  This week we crashed a rocket into an asteroid.  The achievement of what humans have been able to do with technology is astounding.  Yet, in the face of mother nature, we have no control. The hurricane is going to do exactly what it is going to do, and the only thing human being can do is, prepare for it, let it happen, and then deal with the consequences.

I think events like this one are humbling.  These events show me that no matter how much I think I might be in control of my life, I am not in control at all.  In a matter of seconds, everything could change.  My entire life could be blown away with a storm.

I ask myself, if I could lose everything I have at any moment, then what do I have? The answer is my faith.  It is the one thing that can’t be lost.   Even when I die, God will still be with me.  The strongest storm, the greatest evil, even the worst mistake can’t make me lose the faith that I have in God.

My prayers go out tonight to the people of Florida, may God keep them safe and help them through this storm.

My faith saved me.  May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
