Nothing Wrong with Being Me

My husband and I went to a thrift shop today.  I was looking for some jackets and sweaters to wear around the house because I am cold all the time. When we went into the shop, I was wearing a jacket.  It was strange because right now in the part of the country that I live in the temperature is averaging around 100 degrees every day.  Almost no one is cold and most everyone is melting from the heat.

When we checked out, the woman helping us asked if we were getting ready for the fall. My husband told her no and that I was cold all the time.  He pointed out that I was cold right now and was wearing a jacket today.  She looked at me and made a frown.   Then, she proceeded to help us with our purchase.

I used to really hate it when people did that whenever they encountered my eccentric behavior.   They would frown or make strange faces.  They would even comment saying that they had never met anyone like that before.  Today, as we were driving away, I realized that it wasn’t my problem.  Why should it be?  There’s nothing wrong with me being me.  If that person has a problem with my being different or unusual, then it’s really their problem and not mine.

After all, God doesn’t make mistakes, He made me perfectly.  That’s what His Grace is all about.  My faith grows every time I learn to accept and love myself as I am no matter how eccentric or weird I am.

My faith saved me.  May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
