Truth and Beauty

I have watched lots of TV shows and movies.  I have met a lot of people.  I still don’t understand the idea of a beautiful person.  There are all these scientific studies about symmetry and what we find pleasing to the eye.  There are all these articles about the top-most beautiful people of the year.  Yet, I have never really seen a physically beautiful person.  I guess it is because I hate noses. Everyone has a nose and that ruins it for me.  If someone doesn’t have a nose they just don’t look right.  I guess physical beauty is totally subjective and there’s no true universal to it.

For me, the only way to see something really beautiful is to look beyond the physical appearance.  My husband and I met through the internet.  We emailed first, and then chatted.  After that we spoke on the phone and exchanged pictures.  Both of us were still unsure what to think about each other, but we decided to meet one day.  Although we knew what each other looked like from pictures, meeting in person was a different experience.  It just wasn’t the same.  I was able to experience him in a way that I couldn’t over the internet or phone or in a picture.  I was able to see the spirit and light within him.  I was able to fall in love with the man that he had been, the man he was, and the man he could be.   He was really beautiful.

Maybe that’s the biggest problem with this digital age.  People think they are experiencing so much online, but it isn’t the truth, and it isn’t beauty.

My faith saved me.  May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
