Last night I went to a special dinner function with entertainment. I sat at a table with my husband and a couple that I didn’t know. I was able to speak with a complete stranger. It turner out we had a lot in common. I had kept my regular career but had started a second career in midlife that was a little more creative. It turns out that this woman had done the same thing. Although the careers weren’t the same, the intentions were. For me, the interaction helps me to know that even though there are so many different people, we all have more in common than we have different.
My interaction with her also made me feel very grateful for my own circumstances of living in the country that I do. She told me about an in-law that came from another country where they don’t have the same freedoms that we do in our country. Just a few hours earlier I had seen a commercial on TV during the Olympics saying the same thing.
During this time of political unrest in our country, I don’t know if everyone really understands what freedom really means. I would love it if everyone got vaccinated and wore a mask. It would be great if everyone had to register to own a gun and they could only own a certain number of gun and none of them could be semi-automatic or automatic guns. I think following the gospel of life would save lives so that there would be no abortions or capital punishment. The only problem is I can’t support any of these measures that I would like to see because I believe that God wants us to have free will.
That free will is what makes us His children. When we try to control each other, it is the biggest sin of pride ever because it means we believe the law of man is greater than the Law of God. It is simple: All humans are equal in the eyes of God. We all deserve love and respect and a right to live. He only asks that we love each other the way we love ourselves.
My faith saved me. May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
