When I was a child, I had this book called “Happiness is a warm puppy dog.” I’m much older now and yet, today I saw my little puppy sleeping in her bed with her tongue sticky out and I got the biggest smile on my face. The world could have all these problems. Right now in the United States our two political parties are in a desperate fight for our democracy. People are dying every day; evil is rampant in our world, and everything is totally overwhelming. Along with all that, today, I am in pain with a migraine headache. And yet, all it takes for me to smile without even thinking about it is seeing my puppy dog.
I’m not about to say that dogs solve all the problems of the world; it isn’t that simple. However, what is simple is that in a world filled with chaos, love really does make a huge difference. I could see thousands of dogs and think that they were cute. However, it’s this dog that I love that brings a smile to my face because I hold love in my heart for her. My world could be falling apart, but when I look into my husband’s eyes, my heart feels lighter because of the love I feel for him. I truly believe that God knew he couldn’t make the world or us perfect if He wanted us to love. And that love means so much. Today, just the sight of my dog, changed my whole being because of love. I hope that as I grow in faith, I continue to see the light of God within each person and each living thing so that my heart grows with love. I know I will never reach the love that God has for us, but I truly want to grow in my love as much as I can. I want to spend the rest of my life learning to love better.
My faith saved me. May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
