I saw a person driving a huge truck parking in a parking space that was much too small for their truck, but instead of parking further away the person just parked in the space that was too small. The problem occurs for the space next to the truck because they don’t have any room to get in and out of their cars. It seems like the person in the truck didn’t think or didn’t care about the other people around them. That seems to happen a lot in our world.
I started to think of a thought experiment: What if you weren’t the main character in your life? The idea is consider that life is a virtual reality stimulation sort like the one in the movie “The Matrix”, except you aren’t one of the humans plugged into the matrix, instead you are just one of the many computer programs used to populate the world so that it appears normal. Your entire life is only meant to fill in space in this virtual world. At that point, whatever happens in your life really doesn’t matter as much as what happens to the “real” people, doesn’t it? There’s no more reason to be selfish or think your life is all about you because it really isn’t.
So, now consider this: we are only the creation of God. Without His existence, there would be nothing. God really is the main character of this existence or reality, and we truly are just little specks of dust in this reality. My life isn’t much of anything at all. I am not a main character. Instead of worrying so much about what is going to happen to me, my main focus should instead be on the true main character: God. That’s why I want to see my life as not belonging to me. I want to believe that my life belongs to God and that I am His servant. In the big picture, that I can’t possibly imagine His will being done is the best possible outcome because He is the beginning, middle, and end of existence, not me.
I don’t know how anyone would like that idea, but for me I find that idea comforting and freeing. It comforts me to know that my life isn’t in my hands; it is in God’s hands. I feel a renewed sense of freedom because the weight of the world isn’t upon me to have a fabulous and meaningful life, my life can be whatever I want as long as I recognize who and what I am in the eyes of God.
My faith saved me. May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
