I saw a movie today where the main character really wanted his life to matter. The way that the movie handled the character’s journey doesn’t fit with this message, but it is what made me contemplate what makes a life matter. In a infinite universe that goes on forever and in an infinite amount of time, one human life is smaller than an atom at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. It is a struggle to believe that one life could ever matter in the big picture. However, there’s a Deity that created all of us and that God cares about each and every one of his creations. So, while one may not have much impact, the idea for me is that not only do each of us have a very special personal relationship with God, but all of us are a part of this lifeforce that He created at the beginning of creation. We are all connected through this gift of life that has been given to us. We matter to each other because of the love we share with each other and with our God, but we also matter as a whole because of the life we share that connects every living thing that ever has lived, every thing that is alive right now, and every future thing that will ever live. We matter because we are. Even if I were to die tomorrow, my life is not meaningless because I was a part of life on Earth. I am so thankful to God for giving me that amazing gift.
My faith saved me. May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
