Missing the Point

I read an article today about Christ’s foreskin. The gist of it was that it is the only part of Christ’s body that the Bible mentions that wasn’t part of the Ascension.  There are several churches who claim to have it as a relic.  They petition the Pope to proclaim that they have the real foreskin.  Then, there was a Biblical scholar who made the claim that when Christ ascended into Heaven so did His foreskin.

At this point the story for me becomes ridiculous.  Christ lived about thirty-three years.  During that time, he had nail clippings come off His body.  He had hair fall off his body, he had skin cells fall off his body.  Given what we know about science, the physical body of the baby that was born in Bethlehem was not the same physical body that was crucified during the passion.  And the truth is it really doesn’t matter.  Christ’s story isn’t about His foreskin, His skin cells, or His nail clippings.  The story is about God’s love for us.  God loves us so much that He would die for us.  He gave us a beautiful example of love, obedience, and forgiveness in the story of Jesus Christ and that’s all I really need to know.  The rest of it is just getting stuck in details that totally miss the point.

My faith saved me.  May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
