My husband and I were having a conversation about freedom of speech. There are people who believe that you can say anything under the idea of freedom of speech. There are also people who believe that we should be able to limit what people can say under the idea of hate speech to keep others safe. I have always believed in the idea of freedom of speech, but I understand that there’s got to be something done about hate speech as well.
As I considered this idea, I realized that God exists where everything transcends into one. One of the things I haven’t touched upon is freedom and servitude. God gives us this amazing gift of free will in our lifetime, and we can make whatever choices we want to do will our lives. And yet, for me, the way to enlightenment is to recognize that God has a plan for me, I have to surrender my life to Him, become His servant, and hope for His will and not mine to be done. While I do have freedom, at a certain point, that transcendence takes place where freedom and servitude become one in the same.
My point is that those of us who believe so much in the democratic principles of freedom can’t truly stay steadfast to those principles and say in every single circumstance those principles stand. Nothing is black and white. There are lots of grays in this universe. Yes, freedom is important, but only if we recognize that the only way to truly be grateful for the gift of free will that God has given is to live a life of servitude. I surrender my life to Him daily. I know He has a plan for me, and I am grateful for it. I pray for His will to be done.
My faith saved me. May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
