I had a conversation with someone about AI. They told me it was amazing how far AI has come in such a short time and how much computers can think now. I tried to explain to him that AI doesn’t really think or understand. It is just an algorithm that runs code without really having any understanding at all. The only reason it appears to have any understanding at all is because of the improvements in data available and processing speed. Unfortunately, he couldn’t understand that part.
The entire episode made me consider our own relationship with God. Human beings have such a narrow understanding of our own experience that we don’t often try to understand the universe from any other perspective. Our senses only sense a very limited part of our universe there’s some much of God’s creation that we don’t experience because of the limitation to our sense organs and yet most people don’t even consider that. We are like God’s AI. We may have made great strides and achievements, but we are still so small. We really don’t understand anything at all. Just because we have morals and ethics, just because we are self-aware, and just because we have technology, it doesn’t make us godlike. It makes us children with very little understanding of the world around us.
When I say that I am God’s servant and that I will follow His will and His plan, there’s a good reason for it. I believe that God has an understanding of a much bigger picture than I do. I trust in Him and I surrender to Him. I may never totally understand it all, but I don’t have to because I can look to Him. Faith is understanding that I don’t know.
My faith saved me. May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
