Far From Perfect

I saw a news report this morning.  Something happened in the world of politics that isn’t worth mentioning, but it made me realize that I have become very cynical about the government of the United States and most governments of the world.  I just feel sometimes like the rich are the people in power and they really don’t care about anyone else except for themselves and keeping their power.

Then, I thought about what I wrote yesterday.  God wants me to continue to love and not let a hit and run driver fill my heart with hate.  If I really believe that, then how can I let some politicians fill my heart with cynicism?  Yes, there are problems with the system, but that’s true of every system.  There are still some things about it that are good.  The democracy I live in is much better than the anarchy that I could be living in.

That’s the reason I’m Catholic.   I know that the Catholic religion is far from perfect, but of all the religions of the world, it’s the one that gives me the most comfort.  I understand who God is and yet, I picture Him as my Father, as Jesus, and the Holy Spirit within all things guiding my life.  I feel His presence always.  Even if Catholicism is completely wrong, it gives me a system to think about God.  It is far from perfect; just look at all the scandals in the church.  There’s always going to be corruption where human beings are involved, but that’s doesn’t mean that God can’t shine through.  I have faith that if I have enough love in my heart, then I will be able to continue to see God in all aspects of life, even when there’s human corruption.  He really is everywhere.

My faith saved me.  May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
