Sometimes, I find myself wondering about why I try to understand God and the meaning of life when it is such a struggle just to get through a regular day. I have come to find that it’s a lot of the Holy Trinity: God, the Father, God, the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. It isn’t just an ideal of three persons in one God. It is a basis for the universe, for life, and for human beings.
We live in a material world full of immediate needs: food, water, shelter, etc. However, man cannot live by bread alone. We also have intellect. We have a need to nourish our minds that is why we need to know about our world and why we create art. And we also have a spirit. We contemplate that which is beyond our senses. We contemplate matters of faith and the divine because that is within us as well.
A person who doesn’t recognize all three parts of themselves isn’t really complete. I have found that only by embracing my faith have I learned to be able to face the struggles of the material world and to use my intellect to find balance among my three selves.
There isn’t just one aspect to our lives that is of importance. Just like the past, present, and future. I must live in the moment, but I can’t ignore the past or forget about the future. In the same sense, I must live as a person of faith, but at the same time I have to always remember that I live in a material world for the moment, and I use my intellect to find a balance in understanding my circumstances.
If I ignore one, I won’t understand the rest. I can’t ignore the Holy Spirit and expect to understand God the Father or God the Son. It is a great mystery of faith that I gladly accept.
My faith saved me. May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
