Speeding through Life

I was driving home from a client’s office when I decided that I needed to go back because I had forgotten something.  After I turned around, I got a call from the client and resolved the situation. I found out that I could just drive back home, but by that time, I was headed in the wrong direction straight into traffic.  I decided to get off the expressway and try to turn around, but the exit I took wouldn’t allow me to turn around.  I had to take a different route home.

It really didn’t bother me, except as I travelled down this new route, I saw two things that made an impression.  First, I saw on a side street, an ambulance and a fire truck with their lights on right in front of a house. I thought there must be someone whose day has completely changed from what they thought it was going to be.  Second, I saw a car speeding past me trying to get to a light before it changed and not making it.  This car kept trying to speed and get to wherever they were going, but no matter how much they sped, they didn’t get to where they were going any faster than I was.  I thought it was so interesting that some people speed through life and don’t understand that no matter how fast you move, it really doesn’t matter; God gives us just as much time as we need.

Those two images made me think that finding myself traveling down an unexpected route was a sign from God.  The sign was telling me that I didn’t have to be where I thought I needed to be.  God is in the driver’s seat, and He will always lead me home.  It is funny, but I didn’t really pay much attention to my drive home.  I just enjoyed the drive and I found myself getting home without really thinking too much about it.  Sometimes, I just have to give control up to God.

My faith saved me.  May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
