Ruling by Force

There’s something going on all over the country about vaccine mandates. I, personally believe that everyone should get vaccinated and I also believe that the government should have mandated to create an incentive for everyone to get a vaccine.  There are many people who are worried about getting a vaccine because of misinformation in the media and having vaccine mandates can be a good counter-balance to that misinformation.

However, as a woman of faith, I cannot support vaccine mandates. Essentially, the government is trying to force people to do something for their own good and the good of their community and while it is for good, it isn’t right to force people to do anything.  If God wouldn’t send all His armies of angels to earth to force us to stop doing evil, then what right does the United States government have to force people to get a vaccine?

I wish that my stance could be different.  It’s the same way with abortion.  I absolutely can’t stand the idea of any unborn child losing its life but if God won’t send His armies of angels to earth to force women to stop having abortions, what right does the State of Texas have to stop a woman from having an abortion?

At some point, I have to realize that as scary as it is, the only person’s behavior I can control is my own behavior.  The laws that the government enacts might protect me, but they can’t control other people’s behavior.  If someone wants to do something bad enough, then they are going to do it, laws can be broken.  The proof of that is demonstrated by the prison population at any given time.

God doesn’t ask us to control each other.  He doesn’t ask us to force each other into not sinning and into doing good works.  God asks us to love one another as we would love ourselves.  I wouldn’t try to penalize myself if I thought I was making a mistake, I would try to be understanding and empathetic.  I would try to help myself to make better choices in the future.   My faith saved me.  May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
