St. Patrick’s Day

Today is St. Patrick’s Day. Saint’s days are interesting. It isn’t like God or Jesus sent down a message proclaiming anything about saints. It is a total religious and church construct and yet, I have grown up with the idea of saints all my life.  In fact, the four Archangels in my mind are all saints. In my understanding, a saint is just someone who has devoted their life to God in such a way that others were able to be inspired by their life and they also observed “miracles” in that saint’s life.   The reason I say “miracles” is because the miracle is defined by the Catholic church.  I am not sure how that works.

For me, I believe that anyone who life glorifies God is someone who is inspirational.  There are some people who don’t understand Catholicism who believe that Catholics pray to the saints.  It’s possible that some people do.  I can’t speak for everyone.  For me, I don’t pray to anyone, but God.  However, I have asked for the saints, especially the Holy Mother, to pray for me.  I have asked that their spirit somehow intercede on my behalf in asking for God’s mercy or God’s help.  I just don’t believe that could be wrong.  I have asked other people to do the same.  We are all walking on similar paths.  There’s nothing wrong with asking each other for help.  It’s why we pray together.  It why God commands we love each other.   It’s why I write.  We all need to know that we aren’t alone.  Not just that God is with us, but that we are all connected to God and each other.  Saints have this spirit inside of them that somehow lets me know that we are all connected.   So, today, I celebrate St. Patrick.

My faith saved me.  May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
