I remember a reply we used to sing in church all the time. “Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.” If Christ did come again, would I know Him? Would any of us know Him? There are tons of cult leaders claiming to be the second coming of Christ, but none of them are ever the real one.
Then, I thought about it. Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. Did I really believe it? Of course I did, but it’s strange. According to church history, the early Christians believed that the second coming was going to happen in their lifetimes. For me, when I sang that refrain, I never once thought the second coming would happen in my lifetime. Then, one day, a priest told me that the end of the world comes when you die. It made sense.
Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again to me as soon as I die. Just like the prisoner who died next to Him on the cross. On the day that I die, I will be in communion with Jesus. He will come again to me and I will understand His word. Jesus tells us that He will come like a thief in the night; we won’t know when He is coming. Just like I will never know that date or time of my death. It isn’t coincidence.
Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. What a miracle it is!
My faith saved me. May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
