On Halloween and Fall

It’s October and this time of year makes me think of Fall and Halloween. It seems like especially around Halloween, many people think about scary things and death.  Many people feel like barrier between our world and the supernatural where ghosts and other supernatural beings exist is thinner.  They believe that the possibility to commune with the dead and spirit world is even greater during this time of year.

For me, it is like the placebo effect or more importantly, I shape my own reality.  If I believe something is possible, then I give it power.  If I believe that the dead and spirits can break through into this world, then I am opening myself up to very real dangers. I don’t know how these dangers would effect my physical world, but I do know that they would wreck havoc on my spiritual world.

It all goes back to one of God’s greatest commandments that I should love God above all others.  It isn’t about loving God above all other gods.  It’s about loving God above everything else.   I don’t give anything the power I give God in my life.  If I ever start to see that happening, I stop and let go of whatever it is that is becoming so important in my life that it gets in the way of God.   For me, the simple truth is that there’s nothing special about this time of year.  It is just a fun time of year when the weather gets a little cooler and everyone gets ready for winter.  The spiritual world doesn’t come any closer during this time of year than at any other time of year.

However, I do love Halloween. I love the pumpkins, candy, costumes, and having a special day to honor the dead.

My faith saved me.  May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
