I haven’t been able to understand Vegans. They don’t want to use any animal products because they don’t want any living thing to suffer for their food. The part I don’t understand is they are fine with eating plants. However, there’s no evidence that plants don’t have feelings. In fact, there’s strong evidence that plants are very responsive to the environment around them.
I’d like people to understand that we have to eat to live. It’s part of life, but at the same time we should all have a healthy respect for life. It seems so strange that we honor the animals we eat, but not the plants and the earth that provided them. There are some ancient and world religions that recognize that every living thing and even some natural objects, such as rocks, have their own spirit. I think maybe every living things is part of this common universality that connect us all.
I also believe that understanding the connection means having empathy. I’ve been thinking about that today. When I was a little girl, I not only thought about how other people felt, but I also thought and imagined how animals and inanimate objects might be feeling. Maybe I understood more than I realized.
My faith saved me. May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
