My husband and I visited the Choctaw Cultural Center in Durant Oklahoma today. Every time we go to Durant, I find that I learn something new about the Choctaw tribe. I feel truly honored to be able to share in the experience of the culture even though I am not a tribal member. When I was walking around learning about the culture, I was struck by how much culture meant to them and it reminded me of my own faith. They feel that the experience of being a Choctaw by experiencing the culture connects them to the past generations and as they teach these cultural values to new generations the culture and experience of being Choctaw will live on. It takes faith in their culture to believe that is important and faith is one of their core values. They have been through so much to keep their culture alive, and it is so uplifting to see that they have continued to do so.
I truly believe that this exemplifies the idea of what happens when we die. It really doesn’t matter what happens to the self when we die, what is important is that whatever love that was given to us through the ages was passed on to others and will continue for generations to come.
My faith saved me. May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
