Faith and Love

I was thinking about social media today.  It gives the impression that we are all connected, but in a very artificial way.  We believe that everyone else cares about what we think, and we are doing.  When in reality, no one cares.  It’s that way with faith and love.

I thought for the longest time that loving someone else meant getting something back from them, but I have found that it isn’t necessary.  There’s something wonderful about reciprocated love like the love between my husband and me, but there’s more love out there than that.  I am connected to the rest of the universe, not just the humans that know me, not just the humans that are easy to love, but to all of humanity.  That group includes people like Donald Trump, Adolf Hitler, and Attila the Hun among other notorious people.  None of them would care one bit about me, yet God expects me to love them.  And if I learn to connect into that universal humanity and know that I am a part of God’s love, then I can find love for even the most deplorable human to roam the earth.  I will learn to see them not just for that moment in time when they committed that evil act for which they are famous for, but to see them for all the moments in their lives.  I will learn to see them the way God does and know the love God feels whenever He sees any of us.   The Bible says that if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, then you can make miracles happen.  Well, maybe the miracle isn’t turning water into wine, maybe the miracle is to love others the way God loves me.

My faith saved me.  May God’s peace reside in all of our hearts.
